Acheson’s Haven

Châteaux de Carzac

Viking Place Names
of East Lothian

Published by Tarmagan Press, Oct. 6th. 2005

This is the most explosive book to be published in this field in Scotland, ever. But it has repercussions throughout the world, wherever ‘English’ is spoken. It is the precursor to a study covering the whole of Scotland, and the place names show conclusively that the early non-Celtic tongue of the Scots was not based on any Old English tongue as is claimed by history books and ‘experts’ in toponomy (place name study), but on the language of the Vikings from Norway, Old Norse. Place names can be powerful witnesses if interrogated properly. It has also uncovered revelations about the origin of England’s name and the language called ‘English’.
In Scotland, it shows that the Scots language dictionaries who insist on an Old English etymology for most of the Scots language, have much to answer for. It also suggests that the ‘historians’ should have another look at their conclusions after the evidence of this book.
